Anon@7:25... I think you're right. There was an old dude on one forum I used to visit and he was lonely (family broken up, kids long distance away) and used to get drunk late at night and post crazy stuff. I bet it's the same thing here. I enjoy the blog, but sometimes it's just too ridiculous, too much stream-of-consciousness.

When frugal bachelor writes like that, he's drunk. The next day, he has no memory of what he said. My brother used to call me when he was drunk and talk a long time. Weeks later, he would get his phone bill and was shocked to see an expensive bill to me! He had no memory of making the call. In the future, whenever he called and was drunk, talking "rant" like frugal bachelor, I would say, Mike, you're drunk and hang up on him to save him the expense.

What drugs do you take because I'd like some. There is no way in hell that your predictions will come to pass 100%. I can see real estate agents going the way of the dinosaur thankfully because they're all a bunch of talking greedy heads anyway. However, I have a problem with your idea of computerized decor. Don't see it. And by the way, 50 years ago the prediction was that we'd all be zooming around the sky in our own personal flying saucers. Hasn't happened yet and most likely never will. Things will go on as they are for years yet ~ not much is gonna change. Now about that LSD...

I bought a house in May of 1994 for $175,000, 30 yr. fixed mortgage. I sold it in May of 2005 for $612,500. This was in CA. Not bad. Was I able to retire early because of it? You bet!

I purchased real estate as a simple investment.

$120k purchase price including closing costs( short sale, great deal ) . It's worth 135k now ( really worth that .... others exactly like it are currently selling for roughly 135-140k). I've spent about $1000 on it fixing things up in the last couple years. That leaves me with 14 k being on the safe side. I've only had it a year and a half. I don't see how buying a hone is so awful.

You seem to enjoy writing these futuristic fantasy posts, and I don't begrudge you of them, but the best part about pet theories is the ability to dismiss them when they don't come true.

Do you remember what people in the '50s thought the country would look like in 2000? Two words: flying cars.

The goal of society has never been to elevate every individual to the level of the rich, but to buffer the individual while maintaining the institution. The most precious resource--time--is as scarce today as it was 100 or 1000 years ago, and I don't foresee it becoming more available in any vision of the future that includes a post-nomadic society.

I'm not convinced. More likely we will see a decline in energy available per capita and a rise in entropy, both physical and social, where mega cities give rise to mega ghettos and slums, and the expansion of street gangs, mafia, and black market economics.

Flying across the planet to bang exotics will be reserved for the rich. The frugal bachelors of future will bang locals who live in the same neighborhood, so they don't have to burn any fuel to see her.
